Rabbits (12u)
Our 12u program is designed to create opportunities for our players to develop core skills, athleticism and lacrosse IQ. We want to develop an overall appreciation and admiration for the game at this age. Practices will consist primarily of drills that provide high repetitions in a fun and welcoming environment.
Our goal is to prepare players for the higher levels and position them to be able to make sound decisions on the field in odd-man situations. We do a great deal of stick work and push the kids to begin the process of “playing fast” and stress the importance of learning to catch, throw, and make good choices while playing at full speed. We also work on other core movements/skills like shooting, dodging and defense. We focus on high repetitions with the goal of executing these drills at game speed, and then work with players to transfer those skills to games through drills that feature game-like situations. We spend almost no time on team strategy, very little time on formal rides and clears, and limited time on set offense or defense. What we teach in team offense and defense is based on simple core principles rather than complicated sets or plays. Most scrimmaging will be in small-sided games like 4v4, 5v5 and 6v6. Teaching players HOW to play vs. teaching them plays.
