our story
IT'S ALL ABOUT THE NYC PLAYERS.
We recognize that we have a responsibility, as teachers of this great indigenous sport, to develop a lacrosse community as diverse, inclusive, and talented as our great city. 5 Points was born out of the frustration of watching some of NYC's best youth lacrosse players leave the five boroughs for club teams hours away, seeking advanced play that wasn't offered here. So we created a much needed resource for the NYC girls lacrosse community. We offer advanced training by accredited coaches, a proven curriculum, and use our unique city landscape in creative ways to get our reps in and level up NYC lacrosse.
TEAMS
Rabbits - 12u
Our 12u program is designed to create opportunities for our players to develop core skills, athleticism and lacrosse IQ. We want to develop an overall appreciation and admiration for the game at this age. Practices will consist primarily of drills that provide high repetitions in a fun and welcoming environment.
Bowery - 14u
At the 14u age division we continue heavy work on core stick skills. Players begin to specialize into positions. We begin to spend more time individual “strategy”, like when to dodge and how to set up your dodge. Team defensive concepts become a bit more of a focus with simple slide packages including 1st, 2nd and 3rd slides. Offensive strategy comes into play as we advance the explanations around movement and reactions to other players on the field to create balance and spacing in an offense. Odd man drills remain a staple as they both develop lacrosse IQ and demand proficient stick work in high speed competitive situations.
40 Thieves - HS JV
Our JV High School program is designed to help both the freshman and sophomore players who are transitioning from middle school to a high school program as well as current HS juniors and seniors that need more focus on fundamental development and basic offensive and defensive concepts. There will continue to be a large focus on stick skills and foundational lacrosse IQ development, including off ball movement and introductory slide packages, in order to build a foundation for more advanced development at the varsity level.
Daybreak - HS Varsity
Our Varsity High School training program will focus on both individual skills and team concepts, taught at a varsity and college level. The program is designed to create opportunities for our players to further sharpen their stick skills, athleticism, and lacrosse IQ to help them at the next level.
By High School we expect advanced players to understand core offensive/defensive principles and have very sound stick skills. Odd-man and small-sided drills remain a critical part of our player training and at this age, players should be making skip passes and mastering their ability to move off ball and find seams in the defense. Defenders will do both team and individual drills to understand and begin to master; off ball positioning, approach to the ball, dictating the path of a dodger, slide and recovery. Players will be taught more advanced team concepts and team offense and defense will remain “principle based” but those principles will become more complex.
